Toronto, Canada – February 17, 2025:
A Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis crashed upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, flipping upside down on the runway. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, and all 80 people on board were safely evacuated, officials confirmed.
Casualties and Injuries
According to Peel Regional Paramedic Services, at least 15 passengers, including a child, suffered injuries, while two individuals remain in critical condition. However, authorities assured that none of the injuries are deemed life-threatening. A medical helicopter was dispatched to assist with the emergency response.
Strong Winds and Severe Weather Conditions
Toronto has been experiencing extreme weather conditions, with sustained winds reaching 32 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Blowing snow also created low visibility, which may have played a role in the incident. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, and an official investigation is underway.
Response and Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched an investigation into the crash. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also providing assistance. Delta Air Lines confirmed that the aircraft, operated by Endeavor Air, had 76 passengers and four crew members on board. The airline has assured full cooperation with authorities and is providing support to affected passengers and their families.

Impact on Air Traffic
As a result of the crash, Toronto Pearson temporarily halted all flight operations, leading to over 200 flight cancellations. Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Quebec prepared to receive diverted flights from Pearson. However, by 5 p.m. ET, flights at Toronto Pearson resumed normal operations.
Eyewitness Accounts and Emergency Response
Air traffic control audio captured the dramatic moment a helicopter pilot spotted the crashed aircraft, reporting, “The aircraft is upside down and burning.” However, firefighters and emergency responders were able to contain the situation swiftly.
Premier of Ontario Doug Ford acknowledged the incident in a statement, expressing relief that there were no fatalities. “Provincial officials are in contact with the airport and local authorities and will provide any help that’s needed,” Ford posted on social media.
Context and Aviation Concerns
This crash occurs amid growing aviation safety concerns, following multiple recent incidents, including a midair collision between an American Airlines plane and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter earlier this month and deadly Jeju Air and Azerbaijan Airlines crashes in December 2024.
Authorities continue to assess the situation, and further updates on the investigation are expected in the coming days. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this breaking story.
